Miguel Martínez Royo


Clarinetist Miguel Martínez Royo is very active in performing, teaching and musical research. Born in Manises (Valencia), he studies with José Miguel Micó, José Cerveró and Juan Vercher at the Conservatorio Superior de Valencia. He has been awarded with special distinction prizes at the end of his elementary and higher studies. He achieves postgraduate diploma of clarinet and chamber music in Barcelona, Valencia and Bilbao with Joan Enric Lluna y Jan Gruithuyzen. Afterwards, he continues his instrumental and chamber music studies at the International Academy of Music “Lorenzo Perosi” in Biella (Italia) with Antony Pay. He obteins the Instrumental Perfection Diploma. He is interested in  historic instruments performance and he starts to study historic clarinet with Lorenzo Coppola. At the same time, he studies the Third Grade in the Politecnic University of Valencia.

He follows masterclasses given by Walter Boeykens, Alan Hacker, Fabrizio Meloni, Sandro Carbonare, Thea King, Carl Leister, Hans Deintzer, Alain Damiens (contemporany music), Antony Pay, Anthony Gigliotty or Thomas Friendli;  historic clarinet with Eric Hoeprich, Carles Riera, Colin Lawson y Lorenzo Coppola; music chamber with Dennis Parker, Jan Gruithuyzen, Daniel Baremboin, Jordi Mora, Charles Rosen, Paul Dombrecht and Imhre Rohma.

He has played with the JORVAL, Orquesta de Extremadura, Banda Municipal de Valencia, Orquesta Sinfónica de Valencia, Orquesta “Ciutat de Palma”, “Orquesta de Navarra”, and with chamber music ensembles such as “Solars Vortices”, “Ensemble Moderé”, “Trio Espronceda”, “Pro-instrumentalis Arts” “Ensemble Diagrama”, “Ensemble Joachim” “Quinteto Mediterraneo”, “Cuarteto Thader”, “Grup Instrumental de Valencia”,  “Ensemble Areté”, “Grupo Enigma”, Dúo “Thun” performing in international festivals in Spain, Italy and France.

In 2005, he founds the winds ensemble  “Harmonie-XXI” achieving a very important performing, didactic and research activity, that contributes to the diffusion of winds instruments repertoy, so as the mixing with string instruments, voice and piano.

He has been awarded in chamber music competitions such as "Ciutat de Manresa" "Paper de Música", and  “Monserrat Alavedra”.

He takes part in different didactic and methodologic seminars of wind-wood instruments celebrated in Madrid and Barcelona, and organized by the  Ministerio de Educacion y Ciencia of Spain. He gives regulary masterclasses in Spain.

Since 1992, he has been clarinet teacher in different music schools in Spain. Actually, he teaches clarinet, bass clarinet and orchestral repertoire at the Higher Music Conservatoire of Murcia.
