Born in Madrid, Cecilia Bercovich is a versatile performer specializing in violin, viola, and viola d’amore. With a dynamic musical career, she has performed as concertmaster and section leader under renowned conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Riccardo Chailly, Matthias Pintscher, Heinz Holliger, and Krzysztof Penderecki at prestigious festivals including Lucerne, Salzburg, and the Wagner Bayreuth Festival. Chamber music and improvisation are central to her artistic journey, having shared the stage with prominent musicians such as Maria João Pires, Sabine Meyer, Cristina Montes, and Lucy Shelton. A passionate advocate for contemporary music, her concert programs are inventive and often feature world premieres as well as her own arrangements.
Cecilia studied under Victor Bercovich and graduated with Highest Distinction from Musikene. She has also received guidance from celebrated figures like Isaac Stern and Itzhak Perlman. Her recordings, which span both solo and chamber music works, are featured on labels such as Naxos, Deutsche Grammophon, and IBS. Currently a tenured professor at the Murcia Higher Conservatory of Music, Cecilia is deeply involved in educational orchestral projects. This season, she premiered ten new works for viola by Spanish women composers at the Cádiz Festival. In addition to two upcoming recording projects, Cecilia performs with the Utopia Orchestra with Teodor Currentzis at venues such as the Berlin Philarmonie or Athen’s Megaron.
